HIP-HOP ACADEMY: THE FIRST MACEDONIAN LECTURES ON HIP-HOP CULTURE

This text addresses the first Macedonian lectures on hip hop, which were given in 2005 for the first time. These lectures were initiated and held by the founders of Hip Hop Macedonia, Slavcho Koviloski and Aleksandar Koviloski, who were gradually including other collaborators who had adequate knowledge of a certain topic and who could contribute to the advancement of the academic aspect of culture. Since 2005, the informal organization Hip Hop Macedonia has held over fifty forums on a variety of topics in Macedonia and abroad. Most of the forums were held in Skopje (at the Institute of Macedonian Literature, the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje, the Faculty of Music in Skopje, American Cultural Center - American Corner, Tochka Cultural Center, Cinematheque of Macedonia, in Josip Broz Tito and Orce Nikolov High School, etc.), but were also organized in Bitola (on several occasions), Veles, Prilep, Struga, Gevgelija, as well as in Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, USA (in New York). This is why, even with modest content and modest opportunities, the act of introducing hip hop culture into the academic world represents a pioneering step for Macedonian, Balkan, and even European hip hop.
