SCATTERING OF HIP-HOP HISTORY
In this essay we will consider the problem of a historical approach to hip-hop culture. The main thesis is the idea of hip-hop history as configural and dispersive. On the one hand, it relies on the configuration of canonical subhistories: graffiti, breakdancing, DJing and emceeing On the other hand, questioning the African-American historiographical configuration has long been insufficient to understand the mutitude of global hip-hop histories. In this manner, hip-hop history is not only configural, but also scattered history; a history that now brings together a multitude of histories outside the United States. Such a history is also the history of the Balkan scenes – equally configural and equally scattered one. An equally impossible, as we will show.
Keywords: hip-hop culture, history, configuration, stealing, travesty.
