Balkan Hip Hop Studies (BHHS) is an international academic journal on hip hop and urban culture, published twice a year. Articles should contain original research not previously published elsewhere.
The journal's contributions to be published may refer to music, cultural studies, linguistics, literature, art, dance, history, sociolinguistics, sociology, philosophy, performative arts, pedagogy, etc. The inclusion of all these scholarly fields is to present hip hop and urban culture from different aspects and points of view. Therefore, we offer several research topics which are not final:
· hip hop as a subculture and popular culture;
· hip hop lyrics;
· hip hop language;
· slang/jargon in everyday communication;
· slang/jargon in literature;
· poetics of slam;
· slam as a literary/performative genre;
· symbols in urban culture;
· graffiti as art or political slogans;
· fashion and design;
· beatbox;
· the art of playing records (DJˈing);
· hip hop dances;
· hip hop as a genre of music;
· contemporary/urban music events/genres;
· African-American culture;
· identity and urban culture.
All texts are to be reviewed.
